UNIVERSITY OF IOWA - KINNICK STADIUM
Drilled Shafts
The University of Iowa renovated their historic Kinnick football stadium to include an expanded northern endzone with luxury seating and modern improvements. The new endzone required 57 drilled shaft foundations extending 80 feet to bedrock.
Midwest installed the foundations using a Soilmec SR-30 drill rig and vibrating full-length temporary steel casings to bedrock with a 160-ton crane and 182-ton vibratory hammer. The project site was unusually small with extremely limited equipment access and Midwest had to coordinate daily activities with up to 5 other subcontractors. Communication and teamwork were vital to maintaining the aggressive project schedule and target completion by the start of the 2019 football season.
